Cast: Imran Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Anupam KherDirection: Punit Malhotra
Rating: **1/2
I have always maintained that Karan Johar teaches his protégés well; they almost always get the entertainment quotient and the slick productions qualities right but alas that can’t be said about ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’.

The production is so slick that even when Dia Sharma (Kareena Kapoor Khan) and Sriram Venkat (Imran Khan) choose to stay in a dusty Gujarati village, they are always impeccably dressed. Imran’s white linen shirts don’t even have a speck of dust on them, Kareena’s kohl-lined eyes are always perfectly done and she exhibits the most extensive cotton kurta collection possible in a poor village. I guess she dresses immaculately to express solidarity with the impoverished village folk.
And this in effect is what exposes the inherent superfluousness of the plot. Sriram actually makes a very valid point when he erupts and blames Dia of being a hypocrite. The fundamental problem with ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’ is that there isn’t an iota of conviction in the narrative - whether it’s the heroine’s activism, the hero’s love for the heroine or the entire living-in-the-village, among-the-poor, understand-their-plight charade that they carry on throughout the second half.
What really doesn’t help their cause is the complete absence of chemistry between the film’s lead stars, Imran and Kareena. I understand that we have established at the onset that our social activist is older than our chocolate boy but that doesn’t mean that their relationship has to be asexual. There is not a single passionate embrace or kiss or even a look that can allude to some latent attraction underlying their relationship.
In fact, the only thing that rings true is how mechanically Sriram goes through the motions of an arranged marriage, even after the girl has told him that she is in love with someone else. So self-absorbed is our hero that he refuses to be the fall guy and insists that if she is so hopelessly in love, she should gather the courage to tell her parents. The director doesn’t romanticize the arranged marriage set-up nor is there any dramatic meltdown. And what really makes the situation funny is how deftly the prospective bride Vasudha (Shraddha Kapoor) manages to systematically brainwash our vulnerable hero into believing that he is still in love with his former girlfriend, and thus ensuring her escape. That I thought was really well played.
The film tends to gloss over a lot of real issues. Why take them up when you can’t do justice? Stick todil, dosti and friendship and you’ll have a winner all the way. Real issues just expose a pretentious approach and superficial concern for social causes like education, poverty, illegal land acquisition and sanitation.

"I bumped into Shraddha outside a theatre on the day I Hate Luv Storys released. I've known her since then. When we wrote the character of Vasudha, I had her in mind, so I met her and informed her about the role. She liked the script and came on board as a friend. We have credited her part as a friendly appearance," said movie's director Punit Malhotra.

Looks like Shraddha Kapoor is game for experimenting with her looks if a character demands so. The actress has beautifully donned the look of a South Indian girl for her small role in the forthcoming film Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.

Her new look from the movie was posted in a still by director Punit Malhotra on the microblogging website Twitter.

A few months back we reported the new found love between ‘Aashiqui 2’ couple Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur and how the couple has been going about painting the town red. However, fresh word has it that while Aditya is madly in love with the pretty babe, Shraddha, on the other hand, is afraid of committing to the new man in her life.

An online entertainment tabloid reports that there could be two possible reasons for Shraddha’s non-committal attitude - a) Aditya’s wild past considering he has had his share of romantic liaisons and b) her own romantic past which she is still hanging on to.

The tabloid reports that Aditya is trying his best to win over Shraddha and shower his love on her. Now we have to wait and watch if all that chivalry helps Shraddha in making her mind about the relationship.

Shraddha Kapoor is indeed going places. Seeing a massive turnaround in her career post Aashiqui 2, she has now been signed opposite Akshay Kumar for Gabbar. The development is close on the heels of her giving a nod of approval to Shahid Kapoor's Haider.

"This is a huge high indeed for the petite young girl who is getting attention from all the right quarters," informs a source, "Gabbar is about to go on floors but the leading lady wasn't finalized. Though there were quite a few names floating around, no final announcement was made. By bagging Gabbar, Shraddha's career should take a good leap."

Producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali was quite positive about Shraddha making the cut since he felt the pretty girl carried just the right kind of innocence that the character demanded.

"Moreover this is going to be a fresh new jodi with Akshay-Shraddha on screen," an insider adds, "This is Shraddha's entry into the Men's Club with a Superstar film in her profile and definitely a huge step into the big league."

Incidentally each of her next three films, The Villain, Haider and now Gabbar, has the leading man in the title who is also playing a central protagonist. Not that Shraddha would mind, considering the fact that even Sonakshi Sinha started on the similar lines with Dabangg, Rowdy Rathore and Son of Sardaar.

Success of her last release Aashiqui 2 has turned around Shraddha Kapoor's bollywood career.

The buzz is strong that Shraddha has been finalised opposite Shahid Kapoor for Vishal Bhardwaj's adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet. The actor has even met Vishal to discuss the script, the only hurdle can be dates issue.

Shraddha is also doing a film with Mohit Suri, so she is waiting for things to fall in place.

Earlier, there were reports that Shahid has recommended good friend Anushka's name for the lead.

The locations for the film has also been decided. Kashmir. Apparently, the director wanted to weave the story of Hamlet with a violent, political backdrop and he believes that the story of Kashmir would perfectly suit the theme.
